True Thanksgiving

The brothers of Virginia Delta took time this year to commemorate Thanksgiving at the Sanders house. Many thanks to the Sanders for their generous hospitality.

GMU GreekSpeak

George Mason University hosted GreekSpeak, an evening to encourage members of fraternities and sororities to make smart choices in their campus activities. A few members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Virginia Delta pose with stand-up comedian and GreekSpeak presenter Mike DeStefano after his set on October 6th. The event was attended by members of all fraternities on the George Mason campus.

Congratulations to the Virginia Delta Alpha Pledge Class. To Bart Altman, Mike Cirelli, Derrick Davenport, Frank Giglio, Eddie Laskowski, Nick Merican, Nick O'Boyle, TJ Sanders and Matt Severns, good luck and may this be the start of many great adventures!

Gentleman of the Month

It is the great pleasure of Virginia Delta to acknowledge Nick DiPillo as September's Gentleman of the Month. Brother DiPillo has worked hard as Eminent Treasurer to ensure the financial solvency of the Colony. His efforts in establishing a checking account and his diligence in dues collections have been appreciated by the other members of the executive counsel. Brother Dipillo has also made a tremendous contribution to the Colony as a defensive player on the Sigma Alpha Epsilon intramural soccer team. A proud Philadelphian, Virginia Delta understands Brother DiPillo is still mourning his beloved Eagles' loss last night to the Bears, but hopes the blow was softened by the Philadelphia Phillies' recent playoff berth.

Northern Virginia Alumni Association

Virginia Delta would like to recognize the generous contributions of the Northern Virginia Alumni Alumni Association in helping the George Mason Colony on the way to its charter. President of the Northern Virginia Alumni Association Hondo Davids (pictured left) as well as other members have provided both guidance and inspiration, for which the Colony is grateful. The Association exists as a way for SAE alumni living in the Washington DC area to stay connected with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity regardless of their distance from their respective college chapters. Rush Week is September 15-19, and Virginia Delta's 2008 Fall Rush Schedule has just been finalized.

Monday 9/15: Intramural Softball, 8pm

Wednesday 9/17: Driving Range, 6pm 

Thursday 9/18: Night Soccer, 9pm 

Friday 9/19: Bid Night party, invite only, 9pm

This Summer, Virginia Delta Eminent Archon Josh Knox visited the chapter house of Cal Beta (UC Berkeley) where his grandfather, Philip Knox, joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon class of 1943.

The men of Sigma Alpha Epsilon serenade Sandra Lockhart at the 73rd John O. Moseley Leadership School. Lockhart is Sigma Alpha Epsilon's contact with Carnival Cruise Lines, whose work over the past three years has been greatly appreciated by the Fraternity.

Gentleman of the Month

Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Virginia Delta would like to recognize Brother Saul Gomez as August's Gentleman of the Month. Gomez represented the Virginia Delta colony as a delegate at last month's Leadership School, and has served the Colony immensely through his contributions of time an energy in the organization of the upcoming semester's activities. He currently works full time for George Mason University's Freshman Center and is looking forward to the upcoming Green Bay Packers season. Congratulations Brother Saul, your hard work is appreciated.

Fast Facts About Sigma Alpha Epsilon

SAE is North America's largest social fraternity with more than 280,000 initiated members.  Fraternal symbols include the lion, the phoenix, Minerva, and the fleur-de-lis.  Sigma Alpha Epsilon was the first fraternity to establish a national headquarters (1929), a national Leadership School (1935), a national Men's Health Issues Committee (1980), and a career-development program entitled the Leading Edge (1990).  Currently, the Fraternity offers a comprehensive member-education program called The True Gentleman Initiative.  The Fraternity communicates through The Record, a quarterly magazine that has been published continuously since 1880.  New members receive a copy of The Phoenix pledge manual for educational development.

The Gentlemen of SAE build a shack to raise money for Habitat for Humanity during the 2008 George Mason University Greek Week.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon Leadership School

This Summer, Virginia Delta was fortunate to send four of its members to the 73 John O. Mosley Leadership School. The five day event allowed the men of Virginia Delta to interact with more than 1,000 SAE undergraduates, alumni, staff and faculty on Carnival Cruise Lines' newly renovated ship "Imagination". The brothers of Virginia Delta returned full of insight and passion to continue the development of George Mason's Sigma Alpha Epsilon Colony.
